Description

The Basic Language Skills Series is designed to provide teachers with activities to develop children’s reading, writing and grammatical skills. This is the first book in the Basic Language Skills series.

Each section of Basic Language Skills Book 1 is based on either a fiction or non-fiction text, which is used as a source for the accompanying activities.

In this learning resource, children are required to use reading skills such as prediction, interpretation, recall, inference and substantiation, as well as identify sequence, and interpret character traits.

Aspects of grammar that are covered include punctuation, (possessive apostrophes and quotation marks for direct speech) and parts of speech (nouns, verbs and adjectives).

Text types that the children will create include reports, journal writing, letter writing, writing instructions and story completion.
