Quizzes For Kiwi Kids contains 32 quizzes suitable for the middle to upper primary classroom. The quizzes can be used as either a whole class activity or as an independent activity for pairs of early finishers. The questions are general knowledge and contain many questions relevant to New Zealand (focusing on history, politics, sports, geography, inventions, science, current events and so on). Each quiz contains three rounds of multiple choice quiz questions and each round is progressively more difficult than the previous round. Students must follow the rules in order to calculate their final tally on their way to a million dollars!

Extension ideas are included as well as a student tally sheet. The quiz questions incorporate most subject areas and links to achievement objectives have been included. Quizzes For Kiwi Kids is a handy resource for any busy teacher who wants to introduce a fun weekly challenge into the classroom.

Floods, Fires, Famine and Cyclones Disasters such as floods, fires, famines and cyclones can affect us both personally and on a national scale. These disasters are not selective in their choice of victims – TV news images of areas ravaged by one or the other of these disasters are unfortunately familiar sites.

World Disasters 2: Weather Related Disasters provides some insight into these types of weather related disasters by requiring students to seek knowledge and to evaluate their understandings throughout the range of activities. References to web site addresses have been included to provide students with a starting point for their research.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis are the result of various earth forces and movements of the earth’s tectonic plates. Active areas, where the earth’s surface is more frequently affected by earthquakes and volcanoes, are situated along the plate boundaries.

World Disasters 1: Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis explores the mechanics of these kinds of natural disasters and provides background information about the frequency, locations and destruction of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis as well as providing opportunities to research significant disasters in history.

Earth and Life Science Series: Creepy Crawlies approaches the main theme of Creepy Crawlies from two aspects:

By including sets of resource notes that provide background knowledge to the activities presented on the worksheet. These notes can be photocopied and used by children as they attempt the activity page, and their use will allow teachers to relate the class science program to the language program.

By requiring children to use traditional print related reference materials to complete the set tasks on the sheets. Tasks in this section are of a more general nature but children will find them as stimulating and interesting as those in the first section, particularly when combined with a science investigation theme.
