Floods, Fires, Famine and Cyclones Disasters such as floods, fires, famines and cyclones can affect us both personally and on a national scale. These disasters are not selective in their choice of victims – TV news images of areas ravaged by one or the other of these disasters are unfortunately familiar sites.

World Disasters 2: Weather Related Disasters provides some insight into these types of weather related disasters by requiring students to seek knowledge and to evaluate their understandings throughout the range of activities. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis are the result of various earth forces and movements of the earth’s tectonic plates. Active areas, where the earth’s surface is more frequently affected by earthquakes and volcanoes, are situated along the plate boundaries.

World Disasters 1: Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis explores the mechanics of these kinds of natural disasters and provides background information about the frequency, locations and destruction of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis as well as providing opportunities to research significant disasters in history.

Junior Scientists Book 3 provides students with the opportunity to learn about science by: experimenting with materials, asking questions, recording observations, investigating and reflecting, and devising new ideas/theories about how the world works.
