The development of skills in young children is particularly important as the child is introduced to the first formal mathematical concepts. Mastering Maths 2: Early Operations has been designed to provide young children with interesting and attractive activities to develop these early mathematical skills and knowledge. Motivating Maths Games

Motivating Maths Games contains a series of maths games and activities designed to consolidate number skills for students who need extra attention. Activities provide for the recall of basic number facts using a variety of practical motivating games that often incorporate the use of dice and playing cards.

Each game has simple instructions and is graded to cater for different mathematical abilities. A set of speed tests has also been included to measure students’ progress in the mastery of basic number concepts.

These games are popular resources in libraries for use as a lunchtime activity. All games within Motivating Maths Games are linked to student outcome statements.

Students will be involved in manipulating, classifying and describing 2D shapes and familiar 3D objects.

Each activity page contains a “Think About It” box as a finishing challenge that promotes the use of varied strategies and cooperative learning, catering for a range of student abilities. Maths Rescue 3 – Number: Applications is the third book in the series created for classroom teachers, the focus of which is on the reinforcement of “the basics” in maths, as well as activities aimed at developing understanding of mathematics concepts. Students with Specific Learning Difficulties experience a range of problems with their academic learning. These problems include word recognition and comprehension; coping with pages that are too cluttered and with too many differing requirements; being able to sequence, recall and apply strategies in abstract situations; striving to process information while working to meet deadlines and having trouble with personal organisation with their school work.

While the books in this series are designed for students with learning difficulties, they can be used as a simple and straightforward introduction to concepts or a reinforcement of mathematical strategies for the whole class. The books follow a basic format, with each activity usually containing a choice of two worksheets to cater for a range of ability levels. Activities in the series are linked to National Mathematics Curriculum outcomes.

Each book contains:

Information on Specific Learning Difficulties: Information from a variety of referenced sources including online literature from recognised Australian organisations. Includes descriptions of the various learning difficulties and ideas for strategies in the classroom and at home;
Student Lifesavers: Clearly presented charts designed as a “basic facts” reference for students who are working though more difficult maths concepts;
“Parent Power” Pages: Informative pages for parents on each mathematical unit. These pages include terminology, mathematical strategies, examples and reinforcement ideas for the home and community;
Progress Charts: Students can keep an ongoing record of their homework achievements.

The Remedial Maths Series is designed to provide remediation in key areas of mathematics. They are directed towards upper primary children requiring assistance with concepts incorporated in the final three years of the primary school mathematics curriculum.

Remedial Number explains the basic concepts of number, exploring in detail the processes of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Decimals are investigated in detail as well as their relationship with percentages.
