Wonders of the Rainforest Resource Book is a great resource for the school library.

This library resource book contains over 60 pages with illustrated sections, providing an introduction to the different biomes of the world and then moving on to explore the features of the rainforest biome. Sections include rainforest locations around the world, layers of rainforests and the features of rainforest systems. This book also explains the importance of rainforests and has many fascinating pages on unique rainforest plants, animals and people. A careful selection of educational rainforest websites has also been included.Includes several full colour pages.

This resource book is part of the Activities for Young Learners Series and is designed to be used with the Wonders of the Rainforest Activities (BLM).

Wonders of the Rainforest Activity Book is to be used with the Wonders of the Rainforest Resource Book

This series is set against the backdrop of five high interest themes. These innovative packages act as springboards for developing and enhancing thinking and creativity skills for junior to middle primary levels. The photocopy masters activity books contains sets of stand-alone activities which are ideal for either a learning centre, homework challenge or general library or classroom lessons. Half of the activities are CYBER CHALLENGES and students will be directed to a website (easily accessed through the Ready-Ed website) in order to complete the activity. All activities are outcome linked to the English, Humanities and Science curriculum documents.

In this book, activities will focus on the rainforest biome, including rainforest locations around the world, layers of rainforests and the features of rainforest systems. This book also explains the importance of rainforests and has many fascinating activities on unique rainforest plants, animals and people.

World Disasters 3: Man-made Disasters

In recent years numerous man-made disasters have occurred. The sections in World Disasters 3: Man-made Disasters contain research activities about space disasters such as the Challenger explosion, air disasters such as the Hindenburg tragedy, chemical disasters such as Bhopal and the Exxon-Valdez oil spill, nuclear disasters such as that of Chernobyl, road, rail and bridge disasters and sporting disasters. It also includes research activities about the background and impact of many of these disasters as well as the historical facts. Background information and web site addresses have been included to provide students with a starting point for their research.

Floods, Fires, Famine and Cyclones Disasters such as floods, fires, famines and cyclones can affect us both personally and on a national scale. These disasters are not selective in their choice of victims – TV news images of areas ravaged by one or the other of these disasters are unfortunately familiar sites.

World Disasters 2: Weather Related Disasters provides some insight into these types of weather related disasters by requiring students to seek knowledge and to evaluate their understandings throughout the range of activities. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis are the result of various earth forces and movements of the earth’s tectonic plates. Active areas, where the earth’s surface is more frequently affected by earthquakes and volcanoes, are situated along the plate boundaries.

World Disasters 1: Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tsunamis explores the mechanics of these kinds of natural disasters and provides background information about the frequency, locations and destruction of earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis as well as providing opportunities to research significant disasters in history.

Atlas Adventures

The activities in Atlas Adventures address the atlas skills needed by primary aged students, with each activity page focusing on a specific skill which can be treated in one lesson.

Each skill based activity sheet is preceded on the opposite page by a set of teachers’ notes which give background to the skill being treated. These include studies in index use, vocabulary, abbreviations and symbols, legends, compass points, scale, graphs and time zones.
